A little gem of a golf course tucked away in Battlement Mesa, Colorado

Situated between Grand Junction and Rifle, Colorado is a gem of a golf course, a pleasant but challenging 7,200, 18-hole course known as the Battlement Mesa Golf Club. Golfers come from many miles away to play the pleasant, scenic course that is located in the town of Parachute, Colorado -- especially a favorite golf outing for those diehard golfers who jump at the chance to motor in from nearby Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction.

The golf club opened in 1987 and has been ranked as one of the "Best Courses in America You Can Play" and to make things even more interesting for the players the little gem sits on a high plateau overlooking the Colorado River.

It has a nice little restaurant, too.

Heard tell they are open year around and work alongside the inclement weather and the three or four inches of snow the locals say is bound to come sooner rather than later.

There are good days and bad days when it comes to chances of teeing up the old golf ball in Parachute. It's best, if you are a local golfer that is, to have your clubs and golf shoes by the door during the winter months and ready for action. The first sign of a sunny day (of which there are many, according to the locals) and it's check in time at the golf shop.

As for the restaurant, which is appropriately called Tee'd Off Bar and Grill, great food -- including a juicy hamburger of which I selected off the menu today. The owner, Kathy Ballard, realized right away I was a talker, but she didn't seem to mind.

She listened and smiled as I continued to explain my lack of fairway hits on the driving range.

Very nice people in this neck of the woods.

Of course, I stopped in and a little teed off, after pounding away on the driving range for a good two hours. My clubs haven't been out of the garage in years. Heck, I'm a baseball player with a  baseball swing, but I have all winter to get my golf swing back into the swing of things -- so to speak...well in between the snow flurries, that is.

That's me Duffer Dan on the left and some photos

taken at the golf course today...
