Tanner O'Tremba went 9 for 17 and drove in seven runs as Arizona captured the three-game series with Arizona State, winning 2 of 3 this weekend, at Hi Corbett Field. The Wildcats improved to 28-13 overall and 13-8 in the Pac-12 Conference, while the Sun Devils drop to 20-21 overall and 9-9 in the conference race.
O'Tremba also homered during Arizona's 8-5 loss in Game 2 on Saturday.
Chase Davis hit a dramatic walk-off homer on Friday night to give the Wildcat a 7-6 win over the Sun Devils and today it was Daniel Susac with a two-run shot in the first inning to get the Wildcats rolling as Arizona won the rubber game, 14-4.
Garrett Irvin pitched six strong innings and picked up the win today. On Friday, reliever Trevor Long (3-0) was the benefactor of the Davis home run with two shutout innings to close out the opener. Chandler Murphy (1-2) was saddled with the loss on Saturday.
O'Tremba leads the Wildcats after 41 games with a .380 batting average (63 for 166), while Susac is second with a .372 average (68 for 183). It's a three-way battle for the team lead in RBI. O'Tremba and Susac are tied with 39 runs-batted-in, while Davis leads in homers with 12 and has 38 RBI.
The Wildcats take a break from Pac-12 play and head for Las Cruces on Tuesday to take on non-conference foe New Mexico State. Arizona returns home to Hi Corbett for a four-game series with Nevada, Apr. 28-May 1.
