Diamondbacks erupt, pound Rockies

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks (25-36) will go for  a sweep in Denver tomorrow.

Fresh off a 4-2 win in the opener on Tuesday over the Rockies, the Diamondbacks score 12 runs in the last three innings tonight and crush Colorado, 16-8. Arizona scored a lone run in the top of the seventh inning, add six runs in the eighth and five more in the ninth to send the Rockies (28-30) to their sixth straight loss.

On Tuesday, it was home runs by Nick Evans and Chris Owings igniting the Diamondbacks, and tonight, it was the first five hitters in the lineup supplying the punch. Didi Gregorius, Gerardo Parra, Paul Goldschmidt, Martin Prado and Miguel Montero collected three hits apiece. Arizona had 21 hits on the night. Montero drove in six runs and Goldschmidt knocked in four runs.

Goldy provided a go-ahead, three-run double in the eighth -- his 23rd two-base hit of the season, while Montero hit his sixth homer of the year -- a three-run shot in the ninth. The 21 hits by the Diamondbacks tied their season high.
