Major League Baseball
The poor LA Dodgers (75-33) can finish the regular season 25-29 and still reach 100 wins.
I'm sure the late Vin Scully would have picked up on that little tidbit, long before it had entered my cluttered brain. The Dodgers are rolling to the finish line in the National League with the best record in baseball and the NewYork Yankees are leading the pack in the American League at 70-39, but have dropped six of their last 10 games.
Houston (70-40) is just percentage points behind the Yankees, but the Astros are struggling a bit in their last 10 games as well, going 5-5.
In the National League, the New York Mets (70-39) went 8-2 in their last 10 outings, second only to the Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals at 9-1. The Cardinals are fresh off a sweep of the Yankees and sit atop the NL Central with a 60-48 record.
And there are your front runners, along with maybe those pesky Atlanta Braves (64-46), although they are 6 1/2 games behind the Mets in the NL East. Of course, everyone will keep an eye on the San Diego Padres (61-50) -- 15 games behind the Dodgers, but have bulked up their lineup with the likes of Juan Soto, Josh Hader and Brandon Drury for the stretch run.
