Steele leads Team Blue to 8-4 win

Tucson Old Timers (TOTS)

60-and-over baseball

Mike Steele, 68, loves to play the game of baseball. Unfortunately work gets in the way and keeps him off the ball diamond.

But it's late spring. The end of May. Time for some baseball for Mr. Steele.

A full-time elementary school teacher, Steele has locked the door of his classroom and is back in action with the 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers (TOTS).

Today, Mike went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs to lead Team Blue to an 8-4 win over Team White at Udall Park.

"It feels good to be back playing," Steele said, following the game today. "I miss playing and being around the guys."

Despite being a little rusty, Steele strapped on the catching gear and caught all seven innings behind the plate and felt right at home when he stepped into the batter's box.

Steele and the rest of the TOTS will be back in action on Friday at Udall Park with a 9 a.m. game.

  1. Thanks Dan, it is fun. Dave and I were talking before the game about the good guys, teammates, we have on the TOTs. Provides a time when we can put tough times behind and enjoy this great game and be around good men. (I am 68 though and have been playing since January of 2008.)
