Arizona Wildcats Basketball
During those final days back in November, the Arizona Wildcats were struggling to say the least.
Arizona lost two of three in the Bahamas, squandered what seemed like a commanding lead in Phoenix in mid-December to the UCLA Bruins, and had to settle as an also-ran in the college basketball standings with a 4-5 record.
And then things changed. The shots began to fall, the big men grabbed rebounds, and the Wildcats were reeling off wins—13 to be exact, 11 in the Big 12 Conference.
Here we are in the second week of February, and Arizona is now ranked 20th in the nation, 17-6 overall, and tied for first place in the Big 12, 11-1, with the Houston Cougars.
Arizona has just one blemish on its record during that stretch, a Big 12 Conference loss at Texas Tech (70-54) while picking up non-conference wins over Samford (96-64), Central Michigan (94-41), and Big 12 wins over TCU (90-81), Cincinnati (72-67), West Virginia (75-56), UCF (88-80), Baylor (81-70), Oklahoma State (92-78), Colorado (78-63), Iowa State (86-75), Arizona State (81-72), BYU (85-74)...and last night's payback win at McKale, an 82-73 victory over Texas Tech.
Against 13th-ranked Texas Tech at McKale, five Wildcats scored in double figures. Caleb Love and Jaden Bradley collected 16 points apiece, Henri Veesaar and KJ Lewis chipped in 15, and Tobe Awaka recorded another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Way to go, Wildcats!
Of course, it doesn't get any easier. Next: at Kansas State (12-11, 6-6) on Tuesday, Feb. 11, and back home at McKale against Houston (19-4, 11-1) on Saturday, Feb. 15.
Go get 'em, Arizona!
