Alex Rodriguez hit his 25th career grand slam last night in New York as the Yankees beat Minnesota, 8-4. It was A-Rod's 679th career homer.

I guess A-Rod is not done yet.

Aces knock off Rattlers, 11-7

60-and-over Aces

The Aces collected 21 hits at Mission Manor Park this morning and knocked off the 60-and-over Arizona Rattlers, 11-7. Lead-off hitter Dennis Crowley led the Aces' attack with a 4 for 4 performance and scored three times.

Arnie White pitched all seven innings for the Aces and picked up the win. White, a right-hander, walked five and struck out one as the Aces built an 11-3 lead before the Rattlers strung together a handful of hits and four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Aces are just two months away from another trip to the Men's Senior Baseball League World Series, which will be held in Phoenix in October. The Aces will compete in the 65-and-over division.

5-run 6th ignites Team Blue to 5-2 win

Bob Daliege had handcuffed Team Blue for 5 2/3 innings.

During the hot summer months the 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers play just six innings at Udall Park on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Today at Udall, it turns out the final out in the top of the sixth was hard to come by as Team Blue turned seven consecutive hits off Daliege into five runs for a 5-2 come-from-behind win over Team White.

Daliege took a four-hit shutout into the sixth and quickly picked up two outs, but consecutive hits by Brian Reilly, Lloyd Barzell, Tim Tolson, Ron Petersen, Arnie White, Pigpen Price and Ray Gedney erased the shutout and Team White came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth needing three runs to tie the game and four runs for the win.

With one out and a runner on first, Team White hit into their second double play of the game and Team Blue walked away with the victory.

Petersen, a lefty, started for Team Blue and Dan Lundwall came on in relief and picked up the win, while Daliege, despite a great pitching performance, was saddled with the loss.

The TOTS will be back in action on Wednesday and again on Friday with their dress-out, birthday game. Both games will get underway at 9 a.m.

Maybin homers in 10th inning to beat Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks (57-59) lose 2 of 3 to the Braves in Atlanta, including a 2-1 heart breaking loss today as Cameron Maybin hits a walk-off homer off David Hernandez in the bottom of 10th inning.

Another tough road trip for the Diamondbacks.

Arizona heads for Pittsburgh and a three-game series with the Pirates. Jeremy Hellickson (8-8) takes the mound for the Diamondbacks tomorrow night, while the Pirates counter with Gerrit Cole (14-6).

The Tucson Old Timers are always looking for rookies, those 60-something ball players willing to still take the field to play America's favorite pastime.

This year, the TOTS, a senior amateur baseball organization which has been around since 1968, has  added three rookies to the club --  Ray Gedney, Fred Parks and Miguel Urtaza.

Gedney, 61, is a former police sergeant  from Chicago, Illinois. Gedney bats rights and throws right and divides his time from playing competitive softball and now baseball with the TOTS.

Parks, 68,  was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and has spent a lifetime in the medical field. He bats right and throws right.

Urtaza, 72, bats right and throws right. A former CEO in the import and export business, hails from Mexico, but as his new teammates recently found out, he's a die-hard New York Yankee fan.

Diamondbacks slip back under .500

The Arizona Diamondbacks (56-57) picked up another 16 hits off the Phillies' pitching staff, but it wasn't enough to get the win today as Philadelphia wins it 7-6. The Diamondbacks drop back to a game under the .500 mark, despite taking the series from the Phillies, 2-1.

Arizona collected 48 hits in the three-game series and now head out on a 10-game road trip, which begins Friday in Atlanta.

Diamondbacks rock the rafters at Chase

The Arizona Diamondbacks (56-56) scored 26 runs and rattled 32 hits around the confines of Chase Field, knocking off the visiting Philadelphia Phillies 13-3 on Monday and 13-1 tonight to even their season record at 56 wins and 56 losses.

The Diamondbacks have been trying for weeks to get back to the .500 mark and they picked this week to unleash a devastating hitting attack, which included an 11-run second inning against the Phillies in Game 2 of the three-game series.

Last night, it was David Peralta leading the way with a 5 for 5 night as the Diamondbacks collected 17 hits. Tonight, it was Peralta again, this time with a grand-slam in the second inning. He finished the night with five RBI as Arizona lit up the scoreboard with 15 more hits.

The Phillies are reeling. The Diamondbacks will be out to sweep the series with a 12:40 p.m. game on Wednesday.
